Our Mission
Our mission at Ukids - East Village is to provide an environment where children feel safe and are encouraged to explore materials, as well as their relationships with peers and adults. We believe that children learn by doing and thrive emotionally, socially, physically, and cognitively when they are actively engaged with their environment.
Our History
Ukids - East Village, originally the Early Childhood Education Center, was established in 1971 by the Department of Psychology and was housed in the West Community Center. Initial operating funds were provided by Student Affairs and the Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU). In 1972, ECEC moved to its current home in the East Community Center, and in 1989, University Student Apartments (USA) took over management of ECEC. Now more than 15 years later, the Center for Child Care & Family Resources has administrative oversight of Ukids - East Village. Over time, Ukids - East Village has grown from a part-time preschool program to what it is today.
